Buggy friendly walks Cork – Blarney

A stone’s throw from Blarney

DSCN2158

Our trip to Blarney was a gentle reminder why we established WheelWays Ireland. Researching for an accessible walk here was somewhat frustrating as the information provided on-line was unclear. It was not a looped-walk as described nor was the correct starting point given, so we ended up driving around unnecessarily. However once we got our bearings we explored the linear path through the ClogheenMilcon Bird Sanctuary. It runs parallel to the main road so during peak hours the din of traffic will be your soundtrack. With regards to safety and young children, a fence and some greenery provide a safe gap between the  two making it ideal for small wheel users.

This path can be accessed from a number of small car parks. Picnic benches are provided here also. The playground is situated beside the main car park in the mid-section of the pathway.

Overall this walk is very well utilised by locals and provides a safe off-road option for buggies etc. While it is listed under the Slí na Sláinte walks it does not reveal itself when searching for accessible walks in the area thus making it more difficult for visitors to find.
